How To Write A Resume Objective

Every resume needs to include a clear career objective. Simply put, this is a one or two sentence statement of your career goals and plans for the future. However, many people find summarizing their personal goals and career expectations difficult. It does not need to be difficult and by researching various sample resume objectives can help in writing your own.

One of the worst things you can do is to not include a career objective at all. Most employers will use a person's stated objective in trying to assess whether an applicant is a suitable candidate for the position they are offering. By leaving this out, you are decreasing your chances of securing an interview and getting the job you want.

It is also a mistake to include a resume objective that is generic and not specific to the position that you are applying for. For example;

"To obtain a position that uses all my skills and experience and allows me to build on them."

The sample resume objective above is too general and vague. It doesn't really say anything specific and will not help a potential employer learn anything about you and your career goals. When writing your resume, it is well worth it to take the time to write an objective that is specific to the position and your personal goals.

Typically, your career objective is one of the first things that will be read on your resume. It is to your advantage if a potential employer can see straight away what it is you are seeking in your career and what you want from a job.

A sample resume objective that is well written, tailored to a specific job and which clearly states what an applicant is seeking in a position is given below;

- "To obtain a position of a sales representative in the medical equipment industry, where I can utilize my customer service and management skills, with the opportunity for future performance-based progression."

A well written career objective, like the example above, that will quickly and simply let a potential employer know exactly what you desire in a position and a company will assist you in finding the career you want.
