Have you been scratching your head over the puzzle about why you're here; why you're alive; and what you're supposed to learn? Some of our wisest philosophers have puzzled over these ideas for many years. Here are three guideposts that might help you figure things out for yourself. And if you discover more than these three, please share them back with me. I believe that life is meant to be abundant. I believe that it has inherently within it all that it takes to feed both our bodies as well as our souls. Each of us gets to decide what that abundance needs to look like, how it should feel, and how much is enough for us. One man's abundance could be acreage in the country with a flowing brook; two changes of clothing; and rich ground to grow his own food. And this form of abundance might be anathema to someone who wants a life of bright lights; fancy clothing and cars; and a fast crowd of friends. I sit in judgment on no one's choices. Each of us gets to choose and decide what our ideals are. What does abundance mean to you? It could be beneficial to write your ideas down. Each of us has unique gifts. You may not think this is true, but I'd like to ask you to ponder stories that are told about you from your childhood. One woman I know, used to throw temper tantrums at age four about incorrect usage of the English language. She is now a writing coach. Her gift was unique and once she recognized it, she could use it to craft a career for herself. What are you naturally drawn to? What do you enjoy the most? What do you do effortlessly that others struggle with? What did you get your highest grades in when you were in grade school? Is there some task that, when you do it, feel more like play than like work because you do it so well and so easily? You DO have a unique gift, and that very gift can be the source of your abundance if you have not experienced abundance yet. I'd again recommend writing down all of the answers to the questions listed here. A pattern or an idea may begin to present itself to you. You should feel comfortable and satisfied. Part of the "norm" of life is that we are meant to feel comfortable and to feel satisfied. I frequently hear my friends and colleagues talk about stories in their lives as well as reflecting on my own life where I can tell that our parents did not understand that feeling comfortable and satisfied was the norm. Wouldn't it have been wonder to have know from our beginnings that when we feel uncomfortable, it was a flag to point us within to make a correction and get back to being comfortable - out of position - and making us feel as if one wheel on the train was off the tracks: in other words, uncomfortable. Just a few questions then (and most certainly we can do this now in our lives for ourselves) would have ferreted out the discomfort and allowed us to once again return to our norm, comfortable. The same holds true for a sense of satisfaction. We too often rush from one task to another without celebrating the successes we've achieved and ought to feel satisfied about. I believe that there is definitely a reason we are here in this relative experience and that we are all supposed to be significant in some way in this world. I truly believe that we are each blessed with at least one unique gift. When we express this gift, we aggrandize the whole world, and I hope this can happen for you. Tips To Help You Discover Your Reason for Being Here and What You Can Expect to Accomplish In order to speed up the process of discovering or refining your Life Purpose, here are some points that you may find useful for bringing what is inside you out into the sunshine. It is my strong hope that in this list of questions, you will pull from within yourself what is most important to you here in this lifetime, so that, at the end, you can look back and sigh with satisfaction. Many companies list a Mission Statement - what the company is all about. You might look into creating one for yourself that says what you are all about! Settle into a quite space and please write your answers down. 1. Make a list of the things you are, you have or you do in your life that bring you great joy, much laughter, smiles (at a minimum), and lovely satisfaction? 2. What things from your childhood did you absolute adore doing; couldn't wait to get to them; could do them for hours without fatigue? Are you doing them now? Why not? 3. What kind of an activity is there in your life right now where you completely lose track of all time because you are so absorbed in the doing of this task? 4. What pursuit in your life makes you feel the most exhilarated about your life without the consideration of time, obligation, or money? 5. Which role models are there in your life who are true heroes? Which of their characteristics do you admire the most? 6. What tasks, skills, games, chores are you effortlessly good at? 7. What is it in you that makes people come to you for advice? What is the area they most seek your counsel about? 8. In what area of life would you be a superb teacher or trainer? 9. If you went "toes up" tomorrow, what would you most regret not accomplishing in this lifetime? Do you see more clearly why we are here? Do you now know more fully your purpose?
