Your Own Life is Your Most Perfect Teacher

By: Maria Khalife

In our business lives, we sometimes wish we had a coach or guru to lean on to help us with our decisions. We frequently think it would be wonderful to defer to someone with a higher level of leadership. Not everyone has someone like this in their lives, and yet each of us has a formidable teacher always beside us, and that is our life itself.

Once we become open to unfolding wisdom, it will present itself to us via our business lives by providing the people and the experiences whose arms are carrying full opportunities for us. We can learn wisdom from every single business contact, from the fellow at the desk beside us to the manager in the next department who doesn't even look wise. Sometimes what they show us is "what to do" and often, the lesson is "what NOT to do." Tucked into every interface we have is a lesson. Some of them are insignificantly small and some are of enormous impact. Wisdom points to our learning exactly what we need to learn via the lessons presented throughout our day.

Outside of business, we can learn wonderful things from our family and friends. We can learn about patience, about courage, about how to acquire new skills, about what works in a relationship and what does not. You can take the things you learn outside of work into your business life and help it to flourish and prosper.

I find it of great help to remind myself daily of the following:

- My life is my best coach.

- Today, I'll be alert for the lessons.

- Bring me today's lessons. I am ready to receive their wisdom.

You may ignite the success you so enjoy and desire more of it if you think about what your life is trying to teach you each day. The administrative assistant who arrives late may be teaching you compassion. The middle management staffer behind a bright and inventive idea could be there to teach you to recognize the good at all levels. If you arrive late for an appointment, the lesson behind it might be about humility, flexibility, or that you might have seen that the boss, too, was a bit late.

The gift box is seldom empty, regardless of how well or how poorly it is wrapped. You can trust your mind to give you the perfect lessons. Lean into it; it's your inner coach and it provides the best leadership for your life and your business; There's no limit to the number of questions you can ask; be open to hear the answers that your life will provide you.
