  • Stop trying to motivate me! Part 2
    If managers understood the role that their behaviour plays in demotivating their workforce then, instead of looking for ways to motivate staff they may be able to appreciate the difference it would make to performance if instead of looking for new ways to motivate people, they just concentrated on not demotivating them.

    It is cheaper, hugely more effective and takes minimal effort compared to the money, effort and lack of any discernable effect of the traditional approach to Motivation.
  • Stop trying to Motivate me - Part 1
    Motivation is seen as something to be supplied to the workforce in discrete lumps by paid third party gurus.

    But most people are already motivated.

    It is what happens to them in the workplace that demotivates them.

    Why should a third party be paid to motivate the workforce when they return to exactly the same conditions that demotivated them in the first place.

    It is like washing the sheets until they are sparkling white then spreading them out on a muddy path to dry.
  • "Command and Control", Why Not?
    There is a school of thought that suggests that we should continue with the authoritarian, Command and Control model of leadership for no reason other than there is no alternative.

    After all, how can we control our organisations production or services if we are not allowed to specify the parameters within which it works?
